I borrowed this book from a co-worker who bought it one day at during one of our “long lunch breaks” After a week of seeing it on her desk I decided I wanted to see what this Kaling kid had to say. I walked into Le’s office and asked her where the book was. She turned around and got it out of her purse and handed it to me. I politely gave her Comcast bill that was holding page 17 in segregation. She had this book for way too long and did not have any intention of really reading it. SHARING THE LITERARY WEALTH! thast what i talking about!
I didn’t know much about Mindy Kaling besides the fact that she played in The Office. I wasn’t a fan of the show but Anna and her best friend of the time( name shall remain unknown) was obsessed. I tried 5 minutes of the show once a long time ago and it was the type of dry humor that made me angry that people were being paid for it.
Within 10 minutes of reading the book I was laughing and I didn’t want to put it down to do any work.( which doesn’t take much) I learned that Mindy was from Massachusetts, she was Indian, her mother is a gynecologist, her dad an architect, and she had a brother. So automatically I’m thinking to myself is this going to be the story of Gossip Girl the hilarious Native American edition.{ which I was super excited about} Turns out I was completely wrong. To my recollection I don’t think there was anyone else in the book that was mentioned that was Native American {so im sure i should research but is Indian or Native American the PC way to say this..} besides her family.
Mindy tells us about her life story and how she fell in love with comedy, the woahs of teenage life, and most importantly making friends. I started to tear up where she spoke about her ability to never be skinny and being okay with it. As I thinking it is so much harder for us women of color to be skinny unless you are attached to a crack pipe. As my book light flickered I decided to take to my iphone to search for many pictures of her fluffy fashion.
So not only is this girl funny and independent, she went to Dartmouth! I believe she spoke about how she owned college . But then New York City slapped all the confidence she had mustered up. The only disappointment is her dislike of casual sex. A good chapter devoted to shagging would have made this book a solid A.

Information provided by Wikipedia [LOVE this website] Mindy kaling real name is Vera Chokalingam. The parentals decided before they moved to the United States that they wanted to give “Vera” a cute American nick name so after watching several episodes of Mork & Mindy they settled on Mindy. Kalings professional titles include: actress, comedian, writer, and producer and creator of The Mindy Project. That’s pretty bad ass for a 33 year old. I’m 25 and nowhere near any of that greatness.
Quotes !
“Teenage girls, please don’t worry about being super popular in high school, or being the best actress in high school, or the best athlete. Not only do people not care about any of that the second you graduate, but when you get older, if you reference your successes in high school too much, it actually makes you look kind of pitiful, like some babbling old Tennessee Williams character with nothing else going on in her current life. What I’ve noticed is that almost no one who was a big star in high school is also big star later in life. For us overlooked kids, it’s so wonderfully fair.”

“I’m only marginally qualified to be giving advice at all. My body mass index is certainly not ideal, I frequently use my debit card to buy things that cost less than three dollars because I never have cash on me, and my bedroom is so untidy it looks like vandals ransacked the Anthropologie Sale section. I’m kind of a mess.”

“In my mind, the sexiest thing in the world is the feeling that you’re wanted.”

“This book will take you two days to read. Did you even see the cover? It’s mostly pink. If you’re reading this book every night for months, something is not right.”

“The Internet also makes it extraordinarily difficult for me to focus. One small break to look up exactly how almond milk is made, and four hours later I’m reading about the Donner Party and texting all my friends: DID YOU GUYS KNOW ABOUT THE DONNER PARTY AND HOW MESSED UP THAT WAS? TEXT ME BACK SO WE CAN TALK ABOUT IT!”
