I've held this post of a long time.
I bought Ali, my 2013 Altima, on January 12, 2013. you can read about it
here. It was the car on the showroom floor. It had 8 miles when I purchased it. It was beautiful. I was so proud. The first car that I've ever bought at age 25.
When got it home. I realized the air conditioner was leaking into the car. But I had a warranty that paid for all mechanical errors and they gave me a rental, so no big deal. After about a week and a half, I got Ali back and I just showed her off . The hose was replaced, and I received new carpet.
I went in every 2/3 months to get the " world class" package done. I replaced filters and etc.
A year or so later my air conditioner went out. After 3 different trips to Nissan they finally fixed it by replacing the compressor. By this time, the customer service at Sparks had been driving me crazy. Survey after survey I gave it negative ratings because the service advisor, Penny, was never nice to me. So after that it was suggested I talk to the Service Manager, Justin. He took care of me as much as he could. But as you know a service manager has a lot of stuff to do and sometimes he wasn't available.
The next year my transmission went out. YES, MY TRANSMISSION. I was around 50-60 thousand miles at this point. When I told JMN he couldn't believe it. When he got in my car it cut off on him 3 times in 20 mins he said, I guess you need to take it in. The process of getting my transmission fix was the biggest problem. I ended up calling the Nissan Corp. Guy, the new service manager, wouldn't return my calls. My husband had to end up going to Nissan and talking to someone. It was really just a large mess. I didn't get my car back until almost the 2 month range. Nissan provided me with a early 2000s Altima as a rental. Then in the very end Guy basically told me I was inconveniencing him because my car was ready and I didn't have time to bring back the rental because of my work schedule. Without telling me fully, Guy sent his employee to my job, driving my car, to pick up the rental.
After that Melissa who was wonderful started handling my car service. I loved her ! She stayed at Nissan for about a year. She was always polite. Although after getting my car tire serviced, I was suppose to get an oil change, for some reason it didn't happen. But she was apologetic about it.
Somewhere in-between all of this craziness I decided that I was going to trade my car in. Nissan appraised it at 14500. Which put be upside down around 7000. That blew me away.
Even though it would have hurt me I even considered buying a new Nissan because the one I had was clearly a lemon. And I was a tier 1 customer so that meant I could get a car with 0 down and no finance charge for 60 months. But the sales guy who I thought was on my side, was really trying to get a sale and not get me a deal. So that didn't happen.
Recently I just had my first pleasant experience at Nissan. It was with Bert, the finance manager. I have reached almost 75,000 miles and I came in to extend my warranty. Because there is no way I am going to continue to pay for an unreliable vehicle without a warranty. Thankfully I came in fully knowledgeable of what I needed for my warranty and got exactly what I wanted. ( after throwing 2400 into a new warranty )
I have 17000 left to pay and 2 1/2 years. I thank God that I am able to pay for this car. And believe me I have learn the lesson of impulsiveness. I now know who and when I should shop with.
