Kitchen Remodel: Backsplash

Hey guys we are desperately trying to get stuff done before the new year arrives and one thing that hasn't been touched since Dec/Jan are our kitchen walls.
Yes guys we have been living without a backsplash for almost a year. Allowing your husband time to pick something for a project is never a good idea. So of course in a years time you can not find the same materials that  you wanted. Home Depot did not really have a great selection on backsplashes and all the ones I liked JMN didn't so this is what we ended up with. All we need to do now is add the grout, put the "tops",and electrical plates on and we are done!

Stay Tuned

Kitchen Remodel: Penis light begone

March was apparently a busy month for us no wonder I didn't update yall.
Let me tell you about JMN! This man can do anything. Thank you William Nelson for this intelligent man that know how to work with his hands ( wink wink).  THE PENIS LIGHT IS GONE.

We've been looking at lights for a while. But everywhere we went this one was by far the best. Lowe's is usually not a store we shop at. I have been purchasing from Home Depot since 2006. And frankly I like to go to places where people know my name. why? because I'm a BOSS.

Just in case you wanna copy, We dont mind.

I know you are checking out my kitchen décor. Ill give yall some insight on that a little later.

Kitchen Remodel: Sink

When we talked about the granite did I tell yall we caught a sell? We got a percentage off and we got to chose a free under mounted sink? No? Well it totally happened.  So here is a close up  look at the granite, faucet, and super cute sink that the granite people installed for us.

Kitchen remodel: Appliances in April

Who knew that keeping up with projects on my blog would be so popular. I cant tell you how many people who have come to the house and said OMG this kitchen is different than what you currently have on your blog!  Then I feel a little bad because I don't update enough on my blog to keep THE People informed! But it does make me feel good that people even care.
I had been stalking the sales ads for appliances. The tan appliances we had were not going to cut it anymore. Although we are very thankful for the use of them the last 3 years. We gave JMNs uncle the Frig and stored the microwave and the oven. Maybe we will have someone else in need of some appliances.
Best Buy was having a sale on appliances. We went in looking at Samsung but turns out Whirlpool had a better deal. So that's what we got! We purchased a new stove, frig, microwave, and dish washer.  The deliver was free, but all the hoses were extra and it was extra to have someone install it. So we bought what we had to and are going to hope JMN can install the rest. The appliances were delivered about a week after we purchased them. Two guys came in to deliver them. Did you know when you have a stove installed they have to drill a hole in your floor to setup like a stand situation to place the stove on to. I wasn't really happy about that but JMN said if it starts to spilt he would fix it.  Our Frig was taller than we expected so JMn had to shave a part of our cabinets to allow it to fit. ( UGHHH)
Also you can see that JMN put our cabinet doors back on and we have new hardware. BUT Ill post about that another time.

Kitchen Remodel: Granite Countertops

I know you guys are thinking FINALLY, we get an update on their kitchen. So we got our granite countertops in March. We purchased them from Home Depot. And after a small fortune, 4 weeks for them to the cut and be sent to us we got them installed on March 5th. There were 2 guys. And it literally took them 30 minutes if even that long. Now remember JMN had already taken off the old ones which was not a problem at all.
Isn't it beautiful?

Kitchen Remodel: Faucet

After researching faucets online and in Home Depot the day that our granite was being installed I literally had to make a decision 20 minutes before the workers arrived. Bad idea . Of course when I got to Home Depot they had the section blocked off and I'm Leaning on the gate trying to take pictures of the faucets so I can send to JMN .
After 15 of the 20 minutes I had to get back to the house we decided on this one .

Delta - magnetic head -soap-dispenser
Who knew faucets could be so expensive ?!

Kitchen Remodel: Buh Bye Counter tops

2015 Kitchen remodel continues!
JMN ripped out our countertops. It literally took him 20 minutes. Do you know Home Depot wanted to charge us $13 per sq ft to remove them? PSHH saved those coins!  They are supose to be coming in a couple days to put our granite in . I am super excited. I feel like we have been doing this  forever!
On another note.... We took down the cabinets so we could add the new hinges  since the half covered painted ones were so not cute ( side eye).  For some strange reason I really like the cabinets with no doors.
I'm going to miss our sink because the new one is a 50/50 and this one was a 80/20. We had the perfect place to but dirty utensils.

Kitchell Remodel: The Gist

This is the semi end result. The walls are Apple Crisp. The next step is to order the granite, pick out a backsplash ,get another light fixture ( no more penis lamp) and buy new appliances.
Being a grown up has never felt so good.

Kitchen remodel: Cabinets

Guys I tell you these cabinets make the kitchen look completely different . They also confirmed that these tan appliances have to go. You know I can not for the life of me figure out where the previous owners of our house got these appliances or why they decided to pick such an awkward tile counter top situation .

Kitchen Remodel: Part 2

If you are just tuning in to Casa De Nelson remodel check out Before and Part 1

Texturing! So the walls are sheetrock. Sheetrocks top layer is like paper that's how you have that smooth surface. Sometimes when you remove wallpaper you no longer have that smooth surface to just slap the desired paint on the wall. In that case you can either put up new sheetrock or apply texture.

by the way we did not paint this  orange on our pantry. And I am thankful for whoever decided not to continue to do this throughout the kitchen.

JMN has an obsession with syrup... I hate it!

As you can see I had to remove everything from our cabinets. For 2 people we have sooo much stuff. You cant even imagine what our living room looks like at this point.

Kitchen Remodel: Part 1

Stank you very much ..listening to my iTunes as I prepare this post and that lyric cracked me up so I thought I would add that on here. lol
Alrighty!  The 90s have officially left Casa De Nelson.
Believe me I love all that is the 90s but that wallpaper was just as bad as fanny packs.
 ( unintentional  Shadow selfie)

I want to prepare you. We, the Nelsons, are hoarders. We that island and our table is holding everything we had on our counters. And normally we don't soda at the house but we had a " party" on Christmas eve and our guest brought that so you know we had to finish it.
If you look at the last picture you will notice a lot of brown. There was tile there that was acting as a back splash and when he removed it the first layer of the Sheetrock was removed.

Stay tuned it gets better!

Kitchen remodel : Back Story-Before

When JMN & I bought this house in March 2012. This was the first house either of us had ever purchased. And once we made our minds up that we were going to buy a house we were in full speed. JMN Best friend is a Realtor and JMN are pretty aggressive folks. After about 2 months we were in OUR house. Now that's from casual conversation, Realtor, and poof signing the dotted line.  We knew there would be some things we would have to fix up.
I didn't imagine that the kitchen would even be on the list. I don't cook. I love to eat but I am challenged in the kitchen so I didn't really care how it looked. But over the last year I realized that I was really having a feeling about it.
I hate the wallpaper! ( okay I always hated the wallpaper) I remember some of my friends parents had the same variation of wallpaper in their kitchens . If you will look in the 4th picture you will see that they even picked a fruit dangling lamp as well. The pears look like penises. ( you know you were thinking it too).

One of my favorite blogger's, Skinny Meg, redid her kitchen (2014) last year and when I saw how  wonderful my kitchen could be I was like yeah!! lets do this.

Now lets me real. Remodeling anything is costly and I work for a non profit. And I still have to pay my car note. So things will happen slowly. A remodel is a want not a  need so therefore when there is some extra moola then I will push it towards our little project.
I really liked the fact that Megs cabinets are gray. Gray is my 3rd favorite color. I also lOVVVVVE the shelving. Our floors are white tile so our counters will probably be white as well.
I cant wait for you guys to come on my remodel journey with us!
